Testavimas ir vertinimas

ViCaDiS studentų miestelio idėja bei metodologija buvo testuojama bei vertinama skirtingais pedagoginiais aspektais:

  • Bendradarbiavimas tarp universitetų, kurio metu socialinė žiniasklaida vaidino pagrindinį vaidmenį (TalkTech'09 - Multimedijos technologijos)
  • Socialinės žiniasklaidos mokomasis naudojimas vieno iš kursų metu (techninės anglų kalbos, multimedijos technologijų, e. mokymosi, technikos diegimo, subalansuotos plėtros, vasaros praktikos metu)
  • Virtualus mobilumas (techninis ir mokomasis) (International Student Mobility Co-operation, ERASMUS).

The pilot evaluation was done on the different groups of students (undergraduates 590 students) in second semester of academic year 2008-2009 and on first semester of the academic year 2009-2010 and consists of different stages: to test ViCaDiS against its own requirements, for usability and desirability by the users (technical testing done using accredited methodologies from Isometrics and the Usability Lab of Microsoft); to evaluate ViCaDiS environment - against students learning attributes, user satisfaction using the ZEF method and tool (www.zef.fi). The Evaluation report is one important result at the end of the project.
The pilot courses were run on different levels and pedagogical settings:
  • Inter-university cooperation, where social media plays an essential role:
    • TalkTech'09 - run by UPT in joint with Bentley Uni and UNIPA - 15/10/09 - 20/12/09 - 81 students from different countries, different types of social media activities, several types of media used
    • Technical English - run by UPT in joint with OUAS - 15/10/09 - 20/12/09 - 46 students from different countries, different types of social media activities, several types of media used
    • E-learning - run by KTU in joint with BETI and UoB - 15/10/09 - 20/12/09 - 41 students from different countries, different types of social media activities
    • Web 2.0 Technologies - run by UPT in joint with Bentley Uni - 15/02/10 - ongoing - 27 students from different countries, different types of social media activities, several types of media used
  • Educational use of Social media inside one course
    • Summer practice in industry - run by UoM - period 1/07/09 - 30/09/09, 24 students from Hungary, different types of social media activities
    • Technical Placement - run by UPT - period 1/07/09 - 15/10/09, 178 students from Romania, testing the inter-operability between UPT eL environment and ViCaDiS different types of social media activities
    • Multimedia Technologies - run by UPT - 1/10/09 - 01/02/10 - 59 students from Romania, different types of social media activities, several types of media used
    • Sustainable Development - run by OUAS - I. period 01/10/09 - 26/12/09; II. period 01/03/10 - ongoing, 41 students and now 13 students from Finland, different types of social media activities
    • Learning Automation technology - run by OUAS - period 01/10/09 - 10/12/09, 13 students from Finland, different types of social media activities
  • Virtual Mobillities (technical and learning)
    • International Student Mobility Cooperation - run by OUAS - period 01/03/09 - ongoing, 27 students from different countries, different types of social media activities
    • ERASMUS - run by UoM - period 01/04/09 - ongoing, 66 students from different countries, different types of social media activities, several types of media used
All activities on pilots described in the Pedagogical Settings (printed, on DVD and online) http://www.vicadis.net/campus/course/view.php?id=54 All students were awarded at the end with a Certificate (included here a printed sample). Several courses are on-going or just started as is an after-project lifetime exploitation. At the end we ran for all students a post-piloting questionnaire and focus group as part of the evaluation:

Evaluation
The evaluation of the ViCaDiS environment against students' learning attributes and general user satisfaction was done using the ZEF method (www.zef.fi) which grows from creative strategic thinking in a web-based environment.

In ViCaDIS piloting, wiki, blogs and chat/forums were used extensively for fulfilling specific academic tasks. The Wiki, OU Blog and Chat/Forums were seen as the most important ViCaDiS features for users. It was also clear that students preferred blogs and chats for communicating their thoughts and reflections while working in groups on similar tasks. ViCaDiS is particularly good at facilitating international communication between students, as in some piloting cases students worked internationally towards fulfilling the same tasks. This allowed them to get to know each other better and to interact in ways which were less common in normal university settings.

The end of the evaluation allowed us to elaborate the pedagogical settings of the ViCaDiS pilot courses, the pedagogical patterns to use web 2.0 tools in academic education, and a guide on how to use ViCaDiS.

All the results are included in the Multilingual Set of Guidelines which is on book, DVD and online at www.vicadis.net/set.
